Honing Oilstone

Category:

Honing oilstones are inlaid on honing heads to perform finishing operations on precision-machined surfaces. They can process various cylindrical holes with a machining diameter ranging from 5 mm to 500 mm, or even larger. Additionally, they can machine workpieces of different shapes such as flat surfaces, outer cylindrical surfaces, and spherical surfaces.
Honing is an efficient machining method that enables the machined surface to achieve high precision, high surface quality, and long service life. It can effectively improve dimensional accuracy and shape accuracy. Honing is applicable to processing cast iron parts, hardened and unhardened steel parts, and bronze parts, but it is not suitable for processing non-ferrous metal parts with high toughness. Honing is mainly used for hole machining. During hole honing, the original machining hole center is used for guidance. The range of machined hole diameters is φ5 ~ φ500, and the depth-to-diameter ratio can reach 10. Honing is widely used in mass production for processing cylinder bores, oil cylinder barrels, valve holes, and various gun barrels. It can also be used in single-piece and small-batch production. However, the coaxiality cannot be determined during honing. Compared with lapping, honing has the advantages of reducing workers’ physical labor, high productivity, and easy automation.
In honing, diamond oilstones and cubic boron nitride (CBN) oilstones, as well as silicon carbide oilstones, are more commonly used. These oilstones are more wear-resistant than ordinary oilstones; at the same time, the pressure they apply to workpieces can be increased by 2 to 3 times, thereby further improving the efficiency of honing and the quality of machined workpieces.
